Julius Caesar (Act 3, scene i)

June 17, 2009

While re-capturing items from my archives for the upcoming “DaydreamTV Volume 1” DVD, I came across this old video. When I was in Mrs. Dobrowski’s 10th grade English class, our project at the end of the year was to video tape one scene from Shakespeare’s “Julius Caesar”. Naturally, my metal-head friends and I chose the assassination scene. Each of us had to perform multiple roles, which were distinguished by different colored sashes or head bands. We filmed at Crown Hill Cemetery in Amherst, Ohio. My father volunteered to help us edit the final tape, so we were able to add music (the obligatory nugget of “Carmina Burana”), titles and multiple camera angles. If I remember correctly, we got an A- because it was way too long. It was only supposed to be 3 minutes long and this runs at about 7 or 8 minutes, but it was our epic vision and we weren’t going to compromise. It won best picture and Jim Mumford won best actor.
